THE GREEN SHEAF
Published and edited by the Anglo-American artist Pamela Colman Smith, The Green Sheaf was sold by Smith from her home studio in Chelsea, by Elkin Mathews from his premises in London’s Vigo Street, and by Brentano’s Literary Emporium in New York. The Green Sheaf appeared in thirteen monthly numbers between 1903 and 1904; uniquely, each issue was hand-coloured at Smith’s Green Sheaf School of Hand-Colouring. The Green Sheaf Digital Edition is based on digitizations of the physical copies held in the Mark Samuels Lasner Collection, University of Delaware Library, Museums and Press. We have uploaded PDFs of each issue to the Internet Archive so that a virtual facsimile in flipbook format is available for users.
The Y90s Database of Ornament allows users to study The Green Sheaf’s textual ornaments in individual detail and in comparison to textual ornaments in The Dial, The Evergreen, The Pageant, and The Savoy.
