This is a pencil portrait of John Millington Synge. His body can be seen from his hips to his head. He appears to be standing behind a chair, with crossed arms resting on the back. He is gazing up and to the right in the image. He is dressed in a dark suit jacket, collared shirt, and bow tie. He has short dark hair and short to mid-length sideburns. Synge wears a moustache with a soul patch, now known as a Doc Holliday style (which is a variation of the Van Dyke style). The moustache is just longer than the length of Synge’s mouth and follows down to the corners of his mouth.
