Centered at the top of the page is the title and subtitle, all in caps, arranged over four lines: “The / Evergreen / A Northern Seasonal /The Book of Summer.” Centered below this text, in reddish-orange coloured ink, is a decorative ornament in the shape of an angel. The angel is symmetrical and is holding pan pipes, with one pipe in either hand. The angel’s face is rendered with simple lines and the gaze is directed forward. The angel is wearing a long diamond checkered cloak with a white robe and pleated skirts visible underneath. The angel’s feet are visible beneath the inner skirts, with toes pointed downward. The angel has long sleeves that extend slightly below the feet. These sleeves are patterned with dots; they are curved up at the bottom. Two large stylized wings extend from each of the angel’s shoulders. The ornament is displayed in a portrait orientation with no border. Below the ornament, and centered at the bottom of the page, the publishing information appears over 6 lines, centred, and in all caps: “Published / in the Lawnmarket of Edinburgh / by Patrick Geddes and Colleagues / in London by T. Fisher Unwin, and in / Philadelphia by J. B. Lippincott Co. /1896.”
