Handlettered names of the spring months, March, April, May and June, each appear in a framed box above a rectangular plate, encasing a medallion image of the month’s astronomical sign (March: Ram; April: Bull; May: Twins; June: Crab) and the names of the week, with dates; the 4 rectangles are bordered with decorative botanical and interlaced friezes and separated by a central column of rectangles containing insects, flowers, and birds; The bottom corners contain insects (left: dragonfly; right: butterfly) and the bottom central box contains the date, 1895, in fancy script. The almanac is topped with an inhabited initial (“A”) with 4 descending swallows, followed by the title in gothic lettering (“Almanac”). The engraver’s signature “Hare Sc” is in the lower left corner. An illegible signature is in the lower right corner (artist?).
